Secure Transport Support Worker (Bank) – LARKSS Secure Transport

 

Location: Greater Manchester & North West
Contract: Bank / Zero‑Hours
Service: Non‑Emergency Secure Transport (Ambulance)
Salary: £14.00 - £16.00 per hour

 

LARKSS Secure Transport provides safe, person‑centred transport for vulnerable individuals across the NHS, Local Authorities, and private healthcare providers. Our team supports people experiencing mental health crises, requiring specialist supervision, or needing safe conveyance between hospitals, homes, and care settings.

 

As a Bank Secure Transport Support Worker (STSW), you’ll play a vital frontline role, ensuring every journey is safe, dignified, and delivered with empathy.

What you’ll do

 

The role primarily involves the transfer of mental health patients, including those detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. This includes community transfers, ward-to-ward movements, hospital to psychiatric ward transfers, as well as providing support for appointments and court appearances.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

• Safely transferring patients within the community and between healthcare settings.

• Coordinating ward-to-ward and hospital-to-psychiatric ward transfers.

• Supporting patients during appointments and court appearances.

• Ensuring patient dignity, safety, and compliance with relevant legislation throughout all transfers.

• Support vulnerable service users during secure and non‑secure journeys, ensuring dignity, respect, and emotional reassurance.

• Work within mixed‑skill teams including clinicians, Ambulance Care Assistants (ACAs), and senior staff.

• Use de‑escalation and safe intervention techniques when required (full training provided).

• Complete dynamic risk assessments, safety checks, and accurate documentation.

• Communicate clearly with NHS staff, families, police, and receiving services.

• Maintain vehicle and equipment safety, ensuring readiness for each journey.

• Uphold CQC, NHS, and LARKSS Secure Transport governance standards at all times.

 

Training & Development

 

We invest heavily in your growth. As a Bank STSW, you will receive:

• NHS‑standard training in de‑escalation, crisis intervention, and safe physical intervention

• First Aid / BLS

• PMVA

• Ongoing CPD, and supervision

What we’re looking for

• Ability to remain calm under pressure

• Willingness to work flexibly across days, nights, and weekends

• Full UK driving licence (desirable for drivers but not essential). For our drivers, a minimum age of 25 and at least 2 years of driving experience is required, with no adverse driving history. A valid car driving licence (Category B) is the minimum requirement)

• Experience in mental health, care, support work, or ambulance services (advantageous but not required)
